Home Inventory of Your
Possessions.

Home Contents

Home inventory of your furnishings, possessions and valuables. Documented evidence assists with any insurance claims

Natural disasters, fires, acts of terrorism, vandalism and burglary all put our homes and possessions at risk.

Do you know the value of your possessions accurately?
Your cumulative home inventory total may amaze you.
You may discover that you are vastly under insured.

Having your possessions accurately priced and documented allows you to insure your contents for their true value. It also makes it much easier for you to put your life back together in the event of a loss and subsequent insurance claim. The whole process becomes less painful and time consuming.

Statistics show that less than 20% of homeowners have an updated home inventory record and that those that do typically obtain higher payouts from their insurers. Although most insurers try to be helpful in settling claims, they are not prepared to issue blank cheques. You have a responsibility to prove what you say you lost is fact. Having written (and preferably photographic) records of the lost or damaged items to support your claims will certainly help to process them faster, as well as assisting to identify any recovered stolen items.

"It won't happen to me".
“I know I should do it, I'll do it later"

No one plans for their possessions to be stolen or destroyed, but it can happen to you and always without warning.  Imagine trying to recall and prove what possessions you owned after an incident, especially a total loss situation. Try and explain from memory what family treasures and heirlooms look like - video and digital photographic records assist the police and insurers.

Once completed these home inventory records need to be stored in a secure, safe place such as a fire proof safe, or a safety deposit box, otherwise they could be lost in the incident

Remember under insurance means that your insurer is entitled to pay only a proportion of the value of a claim. If you are under insured by 20%, your insurer might reduce the payout on a claim by 20% irrespective of the value of the claim. Ask yourself 'why should they pay out if you have not been paying the correct premium.

Contents inventory can also be very useful when moving home or storing possessions.
